Elevated eye pressure can lead to damage to the optic nerve, which carries information from the eye to the brain. Damage to the optic nerve can lead to permanent peripheral vision loss. Unless the eye pressure is extremely high, one may not feel any pain or notice the peripheral vision loss. Glaucoma then may cause silent blindness unless caught early by an eye doctor. Treatment included topical eye drops to lower the eye pressure along with laser procedures and surgery.
