Ocular Surface Neoplasm Surgery (Eye Cancer Surgery)

While cancers on the eye surface are rare, they do occur. If there is a lesion on the cornea or conjunctiva, it may be treated with a topical chemotherapeutic drops regiment or surgical removal. The procedure uses a delicate technique to isolate the cancer along with 3-4 mm margins. The adjacent remaining tissue is temporarily frozen to kill residual cancer cells. An amniotic membrane graft is then used to cover the defect left from the cancerous tissue. The lesion is then sent to an expert eye pathologist for a definitive reading.
